CrossHeirs Sportsman's Fellowship
"You have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, 'Abba! Father!' The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ."
-- Romans 8:15-17
You’ve just eaten a hearty meal with some of your closest friends or mentors. You now find yourself sitting around a blazing fire, a productive day shooting ducks in the Arkansas Green Timber still fresh on your mind. Soon the conversation flows, your heart gets challenged and your iron gets sharpened. While you greatly anticipate tomorrow morning’s duck hunt there’s no place you’d rather be than right here, right now.
Reaching the hearts of men in an environment in which they’re comfortable is what CrossHeirs Sportsman's Fellowship is all
about.
- father/son retreats
- pastors retreats or getaways
- men’s retreats
- corporate retreats
- or just an iron sharpening getaway
- for the guys.
Our Mission
CrossHeirs Sportsman's Fellowship was founded in 2003 as a Christian evangelistic outreach to men who like to hike, hunt and fish with the goal of helping them discover and/or restore their relationship with the Creator. The aim of CrossHeirs is to provide opportunities for sportsmen to discover first hand that you don't have to surrender your masculinity in order to follow Christ.
We know many men feel uncomfortable in a traditional church setting which is why we hope to reach men where they are, show them God's plan for their lives and provide teaching and mentoring to help them become the men God created them to be.
The Church at Gander Mountain
By the time this newsletter reaches you we will have already held our first ever service inside the North Little Rock Gander Mountain Outdoor Retailer.
New CrossHeirs director Wyatt Johnson had the vision for this a long time ago and through his hard work and determination and God’s perfect timing we’re witnessing another great opportunity to share the gospel through Outdoor ministry.
Here’s how it will work: The service will begin with a meet and greet beginning at 10 am. Wyatt will lead an introduction into the Gospel of John until around 10:45 and the last 15 minutes will be open for discussion. The service was initially created for employees of Gander Mtn. but will be open to anyone who happens to be walking through the store on Sunday morning.
Too many men are skipping church but feel right at home in a place like Gander Mountain. We’re just trolling for souls, folks! It’s Wyatt’s hope that these types of services can expanded into other Outdoor retailers. If you are interested in starting a CrossHeirs chapter at your church please give us a call or shoot us an email.
From the Director
Hey Guys,
CrossHeirs has been busy as of late getting ready for the elk hunt and such. We are excited about our new church plant at Gander Mountains retail store in Sherwood, Ar. We meet @ 10:00 AM every Sunday morning for Bible study and fellowship. This is a great place for the outdoors family to learn about Christ in an atmosphere that is not intimidating. I encourage you to invite the unchurched outdoor family in your club or camp to attend.
We are in the process of planning a Rio Grande turkey hunt this spring and spots will be very limited. If you are interested let me know and I will update you as things come together. I would also like to hear about any ideas you would like to see implemented as this is a work in process.
God bless
- Wyatt
Dove Shoot a Great Success
Black Mallard Outfitters was the sight for our first-ever Dove Shoot on Sept. 9th, 2006 and we had a blast...literally! Nearly 50 guys and their sons (plus one daughter) gathered together before daylight, had a prayer, then assumed their positions across the bigfield and waited for the first flight atfirstlight.
When the smoke cleared we had enough for a great post hunt bar b que! One of the most memorable things for me was the sight on the young men showing the younger boys how to breast a dove. It was true mentoring in action and served as a great object lesson for our devotion later that morning. Mark your calendars for next year. We've already booked Black Mallard for an opening day hunt which should fall on the first Saturday in September.
Keith's Dove Recipe:
Place the breasts of Dove in a large zip lock bag and cover with "Allegro"
brand marinade for
1 hour. Melt some butter in the microwave and add a good sprinkling of "Tony Chachere"s" Original Creole Seasoning to themelted butter. Ratio of about 1
teaspoon to a stick of butter for those that want a measurement. If you want
a little more zip- add more Tony's. Get the grill good and hot, put the breasts on the grill bone side down then
baste with the Cajun Butter. Turn the breast in 4-5 minutes depending on the
heat of the grill. Watch them closely and when the bone side gets browned,
flip them meat side down. When the breast browns, take them off. Only about
2-3 minutes or so typically.
Keep them hot and give a light brush with the Cajun Butter, serve and enjoy! See more of Keith's recipies...
